The Sanctuary Model: An Organizational Approach to Trauma-Informed Care
In this workshop, the presenters will provide a look at how the Sanctuary Model is being implemented as an organizational approach for creating trauma-informed systems in various settings. Dr. Bloom is one of the originators of the model and of the development of the Sanctuary Institute, the training arm of the Sanctuary Model. Dr. Bennington-Davis has experience implementing the Sanctuary Model in an acute care psychiatric inpatient setting as well as the ways in which a small town in the western part of the United States are using the Sanctuary Model as a community-wide intervention. Mr. Lukas is currently leading an effort to implement the Sanctuary Model in a UK residential school for emotionally disturbed young people as well as a residence for developmentally disabled adults. Their varied experiences should enable audience members to get a sense of the many ways the Sanctuary Model can be adopted for different kinds of settings and populations.
