Marie O. Etienne, DNP, ARNP, PLNC

   

MarieEtienne07Marie O. Etienne, DNP, ARNP, PLNC is a Professor at Miami Dade College (MDC), Medical Campus, Benjamín León School of Nursing. Dr. Etienne entered the realm of academics at Miami Dade College since 1997. Her experience includes pediatrics, geriatrics, family practice, Community Health Nursing program coordinator, and on-line teaching for the RN-BSN program at the College. She is a certified Professional Legal Nurse Consultant. She earned the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from University of Miami. Dr. Etienne is a full Professor of Nursing at the college, one of the highest ranking positions in academia.

  

Dr. Etienne is the 2007 recipient of the MDC Stanley G. Tate and Family Endowed Teaching Chair for Excellence in Academia. She is past President of the Haitian American Nurses Association of Florida (HANA) 2005-2007 and past Chairperson of the Haitian American Professionals Coalition (HAPC) in 2008-2010. She received several distinguished awards for her work by local, national and international reputable organizations. In 2011, Dr. Etienne was selected as one of the Health Information Technology Scholars (HITS) from NLN, John Hopkins University & University of Indiana. Dr. Etienne serves a consultant and Public Relations Liaison for the National Association of Hispanic Nurses – Miami Chapter. She is a very active member of the Haitian American Nurses Association of Florida where served as past president 2005-2007; and chair of Public Relations Committee since 1999. Dr. Etienne is a 2011 Marie Claire Heureuse Leadership Award recipient from Women of Miami (Fanm Ayisyen Nan Miyami). In 2011, Dr. Etienne as the first inductee on HANA’s Wall of Fame” for being a transformational leader, a passionate servant, an inspiring achiever, a dedicated role model, excellent nurse educator and HANA outstanding member. In 2011, Dr. Etienne was appointed by the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) to serve on the National Nursing Committee of the American Red Cross and was subsequently appointed to the American Red Cross Scientific Advisory Council (SAC); currently serving in the Nursing and Caregiving Subcouncil in SAC. Dr. Etienne is an active member of NBNA and also serves as the Public Relations Chair and Historian for the Miami Chapter – Black Nurses Association.

  

Dr. Etienne organizes and volunteers with Project Medishare during post-earthquake in Haiti and coordinated medical missions to Dominican Republic Bateyes and to Haiti with the Haitian American Professionals Coalition. Dr. Etienne is a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Volunteer for the Florida Department of Health, receiving numerous distinguished awards for her community service work including the 2011 Nurse.Com Nursing Excellence Regional Award, and the 2012 Florida Nurses Association Advanced Practice Nursing Award and the 2012 FNA South Region Advanced Practice Award. A 2012 Advanced Practice Nursing Award from the Florida Nurses Association (FNA) and FNA South Region Awardee as well. In February 2013, Dr. Etienne was selected as one of the top 25 Nursing Professors in Florida for online learning schools; and is a recipient of the Beacon of Hope and Achievement Award by the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami dedicated to the month of women. One of 32 recipients worldwide; Dr. Etienne was one of five recipients who have been awarded the 2013 Florence Nightingale Medal by the International Red Cross.
