Prof. Helge Hoel (UK)

  

HelgeHoelHelge Hoel (BEd, MSc, PhD) is Professor in Organisational Behaviour in Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester.

He has carried out several large-scale research projects on workplace bullying, including the first nationwide study of bullying in Great Britain and a study on the effectiveness of anti-bullying interventions, both of which explored bullying within the Health Service Sector.

He has written and contributed to a number of books, articles and reports in the areas of bullying, violence and harassment, including reports for the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on the cost of violence at work. He is joint editor of the book ‘Workplace Bullying: Perspectives in Research and Practice’ (with Ståle Einarsen, Dieter Zapf and Cary Cooper) to which he has also contributed several chapters, including chapters on the organisational cost of workplace bullying and on investigation of bullying complaints.

Recently, in collaboration with colleagues in the Fairness at Work Research Centre (FairWRC) at the University of Manchester, for which Helge is the Director, he has embarked on an inter-disciplinary research agenda, thus broadening the field into the areas of sociology, law and industrial relations. He is currently Principal Investigator of a UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded study of Lesbians, Gay men and Bisexuals’ (LGBs) experience of discrimination, bullying and harassment in the workplace.
