Dr. Gwen Bonner (UK)
Dr Gwen Bonner, Head of Mental Health Services, Newbury, Berkshire, UK.
Dr. Bonner has worked in mental health care as a nurse for over 20 years as a clinician, educator and researcher.
For the past three years she has been Nurse Consultant within the inpatient services for East Berkshire, UK, and more recently has been Head of Mental Health Services for community services in West Berkshire, UK.
Dr. Bonner recognizes that she has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to examine in depth the experiences of staff and patients who have been involved in violent incidents within inpatient settings, and has worked with them to try and understand what is helpful to them when they experience incidents of violence.
From this collaborative alliance with staff and patients, Dr. Bonner has developed strategies to offer support, building upon what we already know about caring and drawing upon theories of trauma to inform the journey.
