Submission of abstracts

The official languages of the congress are English and German. Simultaneous translation in English and German will be provided for all plenary sessions. We invite you to submit abstracts according the following instructions / information:

1.
Submit your abstract before 15 May 2005 in an electronic way, either by e-mail or by diskette.

2.
Submission of an abstract means that, if selected for presentation, you agree to attend the 4th European Congress on Violence in Clinical Psychiatry, and that you register for the two days conference at the early bird fee before 1 August 2005

3.
Abstracts can be submitted in one of the following two languages: English or German. However, if accepted, the presentation should preferably be presented in English. German language sessions are also provided for.

4.
The following format should be used:

• Font Arial, Times New Roman or equivalent, size 11 point and one line spacing
• Type the title of presentation in CAPITAL LETTERS
• Indicate the preferred form of presentation: workshop or seminar (1,5 hr) / oral presentation (0,5 hr) / poster presentation
• Type name(s) of author(s) preceded by initials, and add if you so wish titles, degrees, etc..
• Underline the name of the main presenter
• Type private post-mail address, e-mail address, and phone-fax number of main presenter, or
• Type name of institution, post-mail address, e-mail address, and phone-fax number where the main presenter is working (only one contact address)

5.
The main abstract:

• The main abstract should not exceed more than 500 words. State background, specific object of study or project, methods and results, avoid if possible tables, diagrams and footnotes
• Submissions may report original research, project development / evaluation, practice applications or position papers, but should always relate to the themes of the congress, and all submissions will be acknowledged on receipt

Themes of the conference:

• Recognition and Assessment of violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Prediction and prevention of violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Organisational and environmental measures for reducing / managing workplace related violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Policies, Guidelines and Standards with regard to the management of violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Pharmacological management and treatment of violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Psychosocial and Physical Interventions aimed at managing disturbed violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Education and training of health care workers in the management of violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Educating, treating and training violent and aggressive inpatients
• Service user perspectives on violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Genetic, neurobiological, and biosocial perspectives on violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Social and psychological theoretical perspectives on violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Legal and ethical issues in the management of violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour
• Organisational post incident responses after violent and aggressive inpatient behaviour: coping with trauma
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: Clinical features and treatment
• Perspectives on the treatment of violent and aggressive forensic inpatient behaviour

7.
The scientific committee will select
abstracts for acceptance either as oral or poster presentation, workshop or seminar to the organization committee. Authors will be notified by 1 June 2005 of time, date and method and allocation of presentation. Submission of an abstract implies acceptance of this final decision about method and allocation of presentation, and for that no further correspondence will be entered into.

8.
If the abstract is accepted
for an oral presentation or workshop you are invited to send in a fuller version of your presentation with adequate reference to the literature by 1st of September 2005 for printing in the proceedings of the congress. The full paper should not exceed 4 pages, A4 size, 1,5 line spacing, including possible tables, diagrams, footnotes, and literature references. Otherwise only your abstract will be printed in the proceedings.
